When I first heard the term “Russian mail order brides”, I was pretty confused. Since I usually don’t like to admit that I don’t understand or don’t know something, I decided to consult my best friend Google and here is what I found:

I don’t think that any of the Russian dating websites out there are 100% safe. Even if the site has a good reputation and is doing its best to protect it, crap still happens. Some sites (such as Elena’s Models) scan their members and make sure that the person who created a profile is real, but even real people can do nasty stuff sometimes, so no matter which site you are using, always be cautious.
I read a number of anti-scam sites and I read many Russian-American forums (Just because I am nosey and spend much more hours online than I would like to admit), and based on what people are saying and on what I saw, the safest dating website (as of right now) is Elena’s Models.

The question as to whether or not Russian ladies are hunting Western men has been answered hundreds of times, but many skeptics still wonder: Is she after me only because I have an American/British/French passport? Are Russian ladies going to hunt me down only because I am a foreigner?
You need to relax a bit. No one is going to hunt you down (or at least the majority won’t). Well, let me take it back. If you look like Brad Pitt and are as charming as let’s say, Richard Gere, women might be jumping all over you regardless of your nationality; and not only Russian women.

There are many myths online about Russian guys. The most popular ones are that all Russian guys drink alcohol like there is no tomorrow, are rude and abusive, which is the reason why Eastern European and Russian women do not want to marry them.
First of all, women want to marry Russian guys and they do marry them. The biggest problem with Russian men is that there are not enough of them. Statistically, there are much more women in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine than men, which makes it tough for many women to get married.

Scam artists are in love with Russian dating arena, so you have to be very careful when dating Russian ladies online. You shouldn’t be discouraged by scammers, because if you do enough research and are careful, they are pretty easy to avoid.
Most importantly, avoid free dating sites. Frugality is great, but not when it comes to dating. Since anyone can register on free dating site, they are full of scammers and full of people who post their profiles or pretend to be someone else just because they don’t have a hobby and have nothing better to do.

Pictures of beautiful Russian girls looking for foreign husbands are all over the Internet. Many of these girls are very young (at least a half of them are in their early twenties), most of them have college degrees and good job. So what’s the catch? Why all these Russian and Eastern European girls want to get out of the country and marry Western men?
Before we continue I can’t but mention that despite the popular belief most of these girls do not want to get out of their countries. Life in Ukraine, Russian or Belarus is not as bad as many Americans think it is. As a matter of fact, many Russians live better than Americans. They are not mortgaged up to the hilt, they go on long vacations everywhere, they dress nicely, and eat healthy food. Many Eastern Europeans are also very patriotic and even though some of them emigrate, they never forget and never stop missing their countries.

3. Be cautious if the woman “falls in love” with you very fast. Even though it may be flattering, I suggest you stay away from this person. Most likely it is not the Russian woman who is writing these odes of love to you, but a professional Nigerian scammer or a group of Russian dudes who are having a blast writing these “love letters”. They will most certainly love you dearly if you end up sending them 2000 bucks they are going to ask you for, but it is going to be a completely different kind of love and I don’t think you’d want that.
