Russian wives are known for their feminity, strong family values and devotion to their husbands and children. Russian marriage agencies are doing a good job in promotion Russian culture and Russian and Eastern European women, but I feel that it is important to know that no matter how wonderful your Russian wife may be, there will be times when living with her will not be easy.
A huge challenge that both you and your wife will encounter is her adaptation to the life in your country. She will have to learn how to use self-checkout in supermarkets, how to drive and how to make a small talk. Many things are different in Russia and Eastern Europe, so your Russian woman may feel very frustrated at times. It may be difficult for you as well, because you will have to teach her all these things.
Language is another issue that a number of Russian-American couples struggle with in the beginning. Even if her English seemed to be decent when you were corresponding, corresponding English is much more different. Idioms, slang and American accents are rarely taught in Russian, Belarussian or Ukrainian schools, so it will take your woman awhile to start understanding you and your friends.
Most likely you will also have to deal with her homesickness. Expect your Russian wife to miss her family, friends and her motherland. Don’t take it personally, because most immigrants go through this. Try to be understanding and supportive when she is down and remember that homesickness will eventually go away and she will soon start getting comfortable in your country.
There might be other challenges that you will have to go through. Most are manageable; just remember that marriage is not a fairy-tale. It is a hard work, which is very well worth it.
